Saturday
Morning - breakfast at Maples Restaurant and a guided tour at "The
Golden Age of Trucking Museum" both in Middlebury,Ct.
by Dan "Dano"
Statler and his Dad, Sandy.
Although Terry and the Northeast
Diesel Get Together are close by neighbors to us this was our first
taste of GM Diesel ownership having purchased our Indigo Blue Silverado
CC early this spring 07.
Terry's "zoning nightmare"
sign announcing the get together in his yard along US Rt. 7 as well
as his handing Dan a postcard at the local fuel stop perked our
interest and we marked our calendars and booked the weekend full
of events. We had many questions to ask with our 1st diesel ownership
and meeting Tom and Glenn from Montreal (Fine Tuning Transmission)
at the potluck entertaining , educational and informative. We headed
home Friday evening having many of our questions answered , as well
as enjoying a good meal (see the receipes page) and good company.
Saturday
morning came early and Dan and I left Cornwall at 7 am to make sure
we had plenty of time to arrive at Maples restaurant.
Dan
drives the big blue Silverado CT Rt 45 to Rt 341 to US 202 into
Litchfield, and CT Rt 63 South - one of our favorite roads.
Its
foggy. The Silverado's fog lights help. The directions are good. The
new "gps" works. It announces "you have arrived"
as we pull into Maples Restaurant parking lot. We are early so we
meet the Duramax and GM diesel owners as they arrive - fifteen persons
in nine trucks in various ranges of models, colors and trim.
The food is good , and the service was good with a pleasant waitress.

GET TOGETHER 2007

After breakfast we
follow Patty to the truck museum. I thought she was wearing heals,
but she is able to operate the accelerator OK. Our new engine is
just past the break in period. WOW, we see the crew cab likes 75
mph as it gobbles up interstate 84 just fine ! The
museum is GREAT ! A wide range of beautifull restorations from "The
Golden age of Trucking". Everyone enjoys the hardware. Some
of the guys fulfill a dream and sit in a "cab over" Kenworth
which they always wanted to do..
We could have spent
more time there - and will be coming back for another visit with
friends.
